Read the rank order

The officer ranks above are shown from strongest to weakest, followed by Sergeant, Private, Spy and Flag. A higher ordinary rank defeats a lower ordinary rank. Two identical ranks remove each other.

Remember the exceptions

The spy defeats officers and the sergeant, but loses to a private. A spy against another spy removes both. Every non-flag piece defeats a flag. A flag can defeat the opposing flag only when it is the attacker.

The rank symbols on this page are the same artwork used on your pieces in Henerals. An opponent’s textured piece back is a concealed identity, not a spy symbol. Learn how challenges work in the beginner’s guide or read the full online rules.
